Reducing the children and young people’s learning and development backlog

Liquid Personnel, part of Acacium Group, helped a local authority clear 1000 assessments in 18 months children’s assessments backlog by providing qualified educational psychologists, restoring timely evaluations, and enhancing future assessment capacity.

Key Statistics

  • 1000 assessments completed within 18 months
  • 30 Qualified Educational Psychologists resourced and recruited

The Challenge

A local authority was overwhelmed by an initial backlog of learning and development assessments for children and young people (CYP), placing significant strain on existing staff. This high volume of assessments caused delays, resulting in missed statutory cycles and deadlines, negatively impacting the wellbeing of children and their families by not meeting the mandated 20-week cycle and 6-week deadline. The existing team lacked the resources and capacity to effectively address the backlog, leading to prolonged delays and unmet assessment needs.

Why Acacium Group?

Acacium Group provides comprehensive digital therapy services tailored for children and young people, ensuring they receive timely support. Designed to address diverse learning and development issues, services offer inclusive and flexible support, assessments and therapy in multiple languages.

The Solution

Liquid Personnel addressed the backlog by deploying qualified educational psychologists and streamlining the assessment process. Each psychologist completed at least four monthly assessments, significantly reducing the backlog. They collaborated with teachers, school staff, and parents to create tailored Individualised Education Programmes (IEPs) for each student.

Candidates underwent thorough compliance screening, ensuring they met high standards for qualifications and experience, including HCPC registration. Weekly meetings with the local authority monitored progress, ensuring timely implementation and adjustments. Psychologists received extensive support, including initial training and ongoing bi-weekly check-ins, maintaining consistent quality of service.

Impact

Significant backlog reduction: By supporting the local authority with qualified educational psychologists, Liquid substantially decreased the number of pending mental health assessments for children and young people. This ensured that statutory deadlines were met and that children and families received timely support.

High-quality assessments: Robust compliance screening and adherence to high standards ensured that assessments were comprehensive, accurate, and actionable. As a result, existing staff experienced less pressure from the overwhelming backlog, allowing them to focus on other critical tasks and improve the local authority’s ability to manage and conduct future assessments efficiently.

Personalised support: Each student received Tailored Individualised Education Programmes (IEPs) to ensure that each child’s unique needs, strengths, and challenges were effectively addressed. This led to timely assessments and improved support, ultimately enhancing their educational and emotional wellbeing.
