Transforming at-home testosterone replacement therapy

Transforming at-home testosterone replacement therapy

Working in partnership to support public and private providers, Ally Health and Acacium Group have delivered over 2,000 at-home appointments to support greater convenience and access to at-home testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) through injections and guided injection support.

Key statistics

  • 113% increase in patient uptake
  • c.85% reduction in appointment waiting times
  • 100+ home visits undertaken per month nationwide

The challenge

Many individuals face significant challenges in accessing TRT – a therapy that could greatly improve their quality of life. Geographic and logistical constraints such as managing busy lives and demanding jobs often hinder access to care. As a result, there is prolonged suffering from conditions such as low testosterone and hormone imbalances.

Why Acacium Group?

As the UK’s largest health and social care staffing provider, Acacium Group’s nationwide network of clinicians enables timely patient care and reduced waiting times.

The Group’s commitment to personalised, patient-focused care aligned with Ally Health’s mission to empower patients, providers, and healthcare professionals by simplifying access to care. You can learn more about Ally Health here.

The solution

This service supports patients who have sought help through their healthcare provider or an online health group. The healthcare provider will evaluate the patient’s suitability for TRT. If appropriate, Ally Health’s tech-driven platform facilitates on-demand at-home appointments for the TRT injections and ongoing blood testing (to monitor the patient once on TRT). An Acacium Group nurse visits the patient’s home to perform a blood draw which will confirm the diagnosis and develop a tailored treatment plan, which includes at-home TRT injections.

This approach eliminates the need for clinic visits and ensures patients can continue their healthcare journey reliably and efficiently. The patient’s progress is continuously monitored through follow-up home visits and online consultations, allowing for ongoing adjustments to the therapy.

Impact

Improved patient outcomes and access

Health providers leveraging Ally Health into their patient pathway have experienced a 113% increase in patient uptake on average, with more individuals receiving necessary care without previous barriers. Leveraging the UK’s largest healthcare staffing network affords nationwide coverage, significantly improving health outcomes for patients who previously faced obstacles in accessing treatment.

Increased patient satisfaction

The service has achieved a 5/5 patient satisfaction rating, reflecting its positive impact on patient experiences. Patients appreciate the ease and convenience of the at-home care option, which resulted in a 220% increase in appointments for one individual’s health over the last six months.

Reduced wait times and increased retention

The wait times for initiating TRT have been drastically reduced from 2-5 weeks to less than five days by giving patients access to Ally Health’s on-demand service. Patients who started their programme with Ally Health’s at-home option have continued for the full course of their treatment. Without Ally Health, over 60% of patients could not have continued their care journey with their existing provider due to the absence of in-real-time booking convenience and a lack of flexibility with appointment availability.

Increased revenue for clients

Health groups that have added Ally Health into the service have experienced an average 130% revenue increase through enhanced patient engagement and retention. More than 100 home visits were undertaken every month since launch in November 2023, offering an accessible, convenient, and effective solution to previously unmet needs, driving substantial growth for clients.

When I first found out about Ally Health, I was thrilled to find out that they covered all of the UK, and they would have appointments that were very quickly and easily obtainable. So rather than having a patient wait, they were just easy to manage and get a hold of and work with as partners to help with their blood testing.
