Delivering holistic obesity care through medication and lifestyle support
Obesity costs the NHS an estimated £11.4 billion every year. For those living with the condition, there are physical, psychological and emotional costs that limit life and the ability to live it fully.
Xyla, part of Acacium Group, is now an official provider of NHS England’s Healthier You Behavioural Support for Obesity Prescribing (BSOP) programme. Supporting over 6,000 individuals across England, the programme combines medication with behavioural science to help people build healthy habits for long-term weight management and improved health outcomes.
Sustainable lasting weight loss with BSOP
While new-generation medications have transformed obesity care, they are not a cure. Studies show that around two-thirds of people regain a large percentage of their lost weight within a year of discontinuing the medication, impacting their progress and confidence.
Xyla brings a proven track record in delivering large-scale, preventative health programmes across England. As the UK’s largest National Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP) provider, Xyla’s clinician-led teams have already supported over 800,000 people to make meaningful, lasting lifestyle changes that reduce their risk of chronic disease.
The BSOP programme is exclusively available to patients prescribed tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) by their GP. Following a referral, the programme integrates medication with structured coaching to help participants make meaningful, lasting changes to improve their health.
Delivered by behaviour change experts, Xyla’s BSOP programme provides;
- Nutritional coaching to encourage balanced, mindful eating
- Personalised physical activity guidance based on individual needs and capabilities
- Psychological support to build resilience to address emotional eating and support habit formation
- Behaviour change tools to support goal setting, self-efficacy and daily routines
Flexible delivery options, including digital, remote and in-person formats
“This programme represents a crucial evolution in how we approach obesity care, recognising that while weight loss medications can be powerful tools, they don’t work in isolation. Our teams are experienced in delivering impactful, person-centred care at scale. We’re committed to breaking down the stigma that surrounds obesity by treating it as the complex, chronic condition it is, not a matter of willpower. Sustainable change comes from combining medical treatment with behavioural support that empowers people to build healthier habits for life.”

Prevention is better than the cure
In England, 64% of adults are affected by excess weight and 29% meet the criteria for clinical obesity. Being overweight can be a precursor to chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers, putting significant pressure on the UK’s health systems.
The “Fit for the Future,” NHS 10 Year Plan includes a “moonshot” to end the obesity epidemic and shift from a focus on sickness to prevention. BSOP is a crucial component of preventative care, helping people adopt healthier lifestyles and potentially delaying or preventing the onset of obesity-related diseases. With fewer people requiring treatment for obesity-related illnesses, the health system can become more efficient, freeing up resources for other healthcare needs.
Learn more about BSOP
Despite years of awareness campaigns, obesity remains a multifactorial condition influenced by biology, environment and mental health. BSOP offers a holistic approach to managing obesity by addressing both the physical and psychological aspects of the condition, leading to better health outcomes and improved efficiency for the healthcare system.
